Renaissance Gardens, Salt & Hidden Coast
The coast north of Dubrovnik is quieter than the city, with small bays and old summer houses of the Dubrovnik nobility. This trip follows it as far as Ston.
It is a relaxed day with a garden walk in the morning, a swim or coffee by the sea and Ston in the afternoon.

The plan for the day
Trsteno Arboretum
The garden of a Renaissance summer residence, laid out at the end of the 15th century and later turned into an arboretum. Two enormous plane trees stand in the village square by the entrance.
Slano
A deep, sheltered bay with a small harbour. A good place to stop for a swim or a coffee.
Ston
The walls that climb the hill above the town, and the salt pans they were built to protect.
Good to know
Allow at least an hour in Trsteno; the garden runs down the slope towards the sea. Entrance tickets for the arboretum and the Ston walls are paid on the spot.
